Sign up by September 1 for the brief presentation tournament on September 22!

Alumni-Club der Charité e.V. is celebrating its 20th anniversary! The celebration, to be held at the Berlin Museum of Medical History (BMM) at Charité on September 22, will include the Science Slam event. Join in and be one of three junior researchers who present their findings in a spectacular format. Slam presentations are capped at ten minutes. We look forward to receiving applications by e-mail at alumni(at)charite.de by Friday, September 1.

Presenting research with humor, in an engaging and accessible format

Whatever your specific discipline within Berlin’s university medicine organization may be, the Science Slam invites you to present the subject of your research with humor, in an engaging format accessible to laypeople. Each “slammer” has a maximum of ten minutes to present their scientific topic (thesis topic or research project, for example) and wow the audience. A five-minute Q&A session follows each presentation. Afterward, the audience votes on which presentation had the best, most creative, and most forward-looking content.

Apply to join the Science Slam

If you want to present your scientific topic to an interested audience, please send your application to alumni@charite.de by Friday, September 1. Applications should include your name and a description of the project/topic, along with a brief conceptual outline of your presentation. (How are you planning to present? Do you need any materials?)

Slammers are generally students, doctoral candidates, junior professors, and young visiting researchers at Charité from a variety of disciplines. The language of the event is German. One of the three Science Slam segments can be in English.

The three slammers will be selected from the applicant pool by a committee using predefined criteria. Selected candidates will be notified by e-mail that they are invited to participate. Prizes for the three participants are made possible through the generous support of academic publisher De Gruyter.

Don’t want to be a slammer yourself, but definitely want to attend?

Feel free to join the audience and show your support for your favorite presentations.
