Charité Alumni is becoming increasingly well-known. And we are working on continuously expanding this awareness. Back in March, we were asked to help with the IGPW Alumni Day and we were both delighted and excited to get involved in organising it.

Graduates of the IGPW returned to their alma mater for an alumni meet up on 10 June and it was clear that participants enjoyed and appreciated the opportunity for personal contact during the networking event. The motto was "Communication, networking and face-to-face interaction" and the day was rounded off with a summery stand-up buffet.

Former students were welcomed by public health scientist Prof. Christiane Stock, Course Coordinator Dr. Nicole Lallini and Institute Director Prof. Michael Ewers. They presented a number of topics, including an examination of successful courses, an update on current activities of the IGPW and a look ahead at the future of the Institute. The Institute Director focused particularly on the values of loyalty and tradition, and also spoke of the importance of creating shared memories. IGPW Alumni Coordinator Ms Bettina Richter thanked participants for being so supportive of the alumni meetup and revealed the day’s programme.

Organisational arrangements were supported by Charité Alumni. Tine Hassert, Personal Assistant to the Dean, presented the web-based ALLumni portal – the communication and networking platform for all current and former students and members of Charité. She also highlighted the in-house IGPW professional group.

After the presentations, Ms. Richter invited everyone to take part in a speed-dating event to break the ice and help people get to know each other.

The programme then explored projects being run by the Institute, starting with brief presentations from Eileen Heumann on "Covid 19 International Student Well-being Study ISWS" and from Dr. Michael Köhler on "AUPIK", with the aim of giving an insight into current research activities in the areas of health sciences and nursing educational sciences.

These were followed by interactive workshops on "Handling Communication across Language Barriers in Health Promotion/Education (C. Polzin, F. Raabe)" and "Implementing Blended Learning in Education, Training and Continuing Professional Development (S. Eger)".

Once the substantive programme was finished, participants were able to mingle and network during the buffet – a chance to meet new people and renew existing contacts over refreshments. Some participants took the opportunity to register with Charité Alumni in the ALLumni portal and to network online via the IGPW professional group. And of course we also had our merchandise on offer – and the flowering hearts proved to be particularly popular.

Takeaways from this successful day included positive feedback on being able to meet up in person again and the desire for participants to be able to interact with each other directly. We're already looking forward to next year's event; until that comes around, you can use our ALLumni portal to communicate and network with each other!
